Non-volatile memory sanitizing package for SpinetiX HMP300, HMP350 and DiVA devices. Copyright SpinetiX S.A. 2016, all rights reserved. 1. Introduction ------------ The accompaining memory-sanitize-ikebana.pkg file is a package to sanitize user data from the non-volatile memories of SpinetiX's HMP300, HMP350 and DiVA devices. The sanitization method uses block erasure as the method to remove user data from the NAND- and NOR-flash based non-volatile memories of the device, that store user related data. This follows the purge guidelines for flash memory based storage devices as outlined in NIST Special Publication 800-88, "Guidelines for Media Sanitization", revision 1, December 2014. This document is available at http://dx.doi.org/10.6028/NIST.SP.800-88r1. 2. Obtaining the package --------------------- The package can be downloaded from SpinetiX at the following URL: http://download.spinetix.com/tools/memory-sanitize-ikebana 3. Sanitization procedure ------------------ a. Download the memory-sanitize-ikebana.pkg to your PC, save it somewhere in your PC. b. Plug the HMP350, HMP300 or DiVA unit into the Ethernet IP network so that it is reachable from your PC. c. Power up the unit. d. From your PC open the web based interface of the unit in a web browser (see the device manual). e. Go to the Control Center interface by clicking on the gears icon on the top right corner of thge web browser window. f. Select the "Operations" section from the left menu and then select the "Maintenance" entry and restart the system by clicking the "Start Recovery Mode" button. g. Wait for the unit to restart in recovery mode, the SYS LED of the unit should blink at a rate of four times per second. When the recovery mode finishes starting the web browser will automatically load the recovery console. h. Alternatively, the recovery mode can be started as follows. - Remove the power adapter from the AC mains. - Press the unit's blue button and keep it pressed. - Plug the power adapter to the AC mains to power up the unit. - Release the button after 20 seconds, when the SYS LED starts rapidly blinking red. - Wait up to 60 seconds for the recovery mode to finish startup. - Connect to the recovery console from your web browser, see the device manual on how to discover the unit's IP address. i. Once the recovery console is open in your web browser, select the "Main" page from the menu at the top of the browser window. j. Under the "Install new firmware" section click the "Browse..." button and select the memory-sanitize-ikebana.pkg file downloaded above. k. Click the "Upload and install this image" button. l. Wait for the sanitization process to complete, this should take a few minutes. Do not remove power while the process is ongoing. If the process is successful all user data has now been purged from the unit but a system firmware needs to be re-installed to use the unit again, as explained in the next section. 4. Making the unit operational again --------------------------------- The above procedure removes the system firmware along with user data. Hence the system firmware needs to be re-installed to make the unit operational gain. This can be done as follows. a. Connect to the web based recovery console of the unit as explained above. b. Select the "Main" page of the web based recovery console at the top of the browser window. c. If the "Install factory image" button is shown, click it, this will re-install the factory firmware. d. Otherwise, obtain a firmware package from SpinetiX support and install it as follows: i. Save the firmware package file into your PC. ii. Click the "Browse..." button and select the firmware package file. iii. Click the "Upload and install this image" button. e. If the process is successful the unit is ready to run again, using factory defaults for all configuration. f. Press the "Reboot" button to restart the unit in normal mode. $Revision: 29646 $
