Boot loader update utility package for SpinetiX HMP100 Copyright SpinetiX S.A. 2012, all rights reserved. 1. Introduction ------------ The accompaining hmp100-boot-update-1.1.4-13427-1.1.14813.pkg file is a package to update the boot loader code of SpinetiX's HMP100 to the following version: U-Boot 1.1.4 (Jun 14 2011 - 11:55:18) - build: 13427 Applying this package from the recovery console solves memory reliability issues that affect some units, depending on serial number, as follows. - Units with serial numbers between 001d5000159a and 001d50002375 are usually affected. - Units with serial numbers below 001d5000159a may also be rarely affected. - Units with serial numbers above 001d50002375 are not affected. This package updates the boot loader code. Failure to complete the update may render the device unbootable without the possiblity of recovery by the user. In particular: - DO NOT remove power to the device until the package is completely applied by the recovery console. - Apply this package only if you are experiencing memory reliability problems with the device or you are instructed to do so by SpinetiX support. Note that applying the package multiple times after a successful install or on a system that has the updated boot loader already installed is harmless as the boot loader is only updated when necessary. See the "updating / check procedure" section below on how to check if the boot loader version currently installed is the correct one. 2. Obtaining the package --------------------- The package can be downloaded from SpinetiX at the following URL: http://download.spinetix.com/hmp100/boot-update/ 3. Updating / check procedure -------------------------- a. Download the hmp100-boot-update-1.1.4-13427-1.1.14813.pkg file to your PC, save it somewhere on your PC. b. For HMP100 units that exhibit memory reliability issues it is strongly recommended that the unit be allowed to cool down to room temperature by removing power from it for 30 minutes to 1 hour before proceeding. c. Plug the HMP100 unit into the Ethernet IP network so that it is reachable from your PC. d. Power up the unit. e. From your PC open the web based administrative interface of the unit in a web browser (see HMP100 manual). f. From the "Maintenance" menu, "Advanced" tab, restart the system into the recovery console (i.e. diagnostics mode). g. Wait for the unit to restart in recovery mode; the LED should blink at a rate of four times per second. h. From the PC connect to the web based recovery console of the unit, the URL address should normally be the same as used above. However, if the system is using the factory default settings and has a serial number below 001d50000ff0 the URL is different and should be one between http://192.168.1.11/ to http://192.168.1.29/. i. Select the "Main" page from the menu at the top of the browser window. j. If at the bottom of the page the boot loader version indicated under the "System data" section is one of the following then the unit does not need to have the boot loader patch applied and you do not need to proceed. U-Boot 1.1.4 (Jun 14 2011 - 11:55:18) - build: 13427 U-Boot 1.1.4 (Oct 11 2011 - 18:42:25) - Bonsai build: 14129 k. Under the "Install new firmware" section click the "Browse..." button and select the hmp100-boot-update-1.1.4-13427-1.1.14813.pkg file downloaded above. l. Click the "Upload and install this image" button. m. Wait for the boot loader update process to complete, this should take under a minute. n. If the update process is successful reboot the unit. Note that the recovery console will always output a final "install failed" message but check the install log messages above this for an update success message. Once the unit reboots you should re-configure the support for large number of USB devices if it had been changed from the default (under "Display" menu, "Interactivity" tab, firmware 2.2.0 and above only). In any case you need to restart the unit once again to ensure proper and optimal operation. o. If the update process fails but it indicates, in the recovery console shown in the web browser, that the boot loader code was not modified turn off the device and let it cool down for about an hour before retyring this procedure. If no such indication appears make a copy of the recovery console contents shown in the web browser and contact SpinetiX support. $Revision: 14813 $
